Screening and Ranking of Hydrocarbon Reservoirs for CO2 Storage in the Alberta Basin, Canada

چکیده

Human activity since the industrial revolution has had the effect of increasing atmospheric concentrations of gases with a greenhouse effect, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), leading to climate warming and weather changes (Bryant, 1997; Jepma and Munasinghe, 1998). Because of its relative abundance compared with the other greenhouse gases, CO2 is by far the most important, being responsible for about 64% of the enhanced “greenhouse effect” (Bryant, 1997). Given their inherent advantages, such as availability, competitive cost, ease of transport and storage, and large resources, fossil fuels which today provide about 75% of the world’s energy (84% in the US and 73% in Canada) are likely to continue to remain a major component of world’s energy supply for at least this century (Jepma and Munasinghe, 1998; Bajura, 2000). Thus, the world, including Canada and the US, needs to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere while at the same time ensuring sustainable economic development.

Overview Of Lullemmeden Basin For Co2 Sequestration Potential In North-Western Nigeria

Sedimentary basins are suitable to a different degree for CO2 geological sequestration as a result of various intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics. This paper screened and ranked the Iullemmeden Basin of Nigeria sector based on Bachu (2003) ranking and screening criteria; evaluating factors such as tectonic setting, basin size and depth, geology, hydrogeology, hydrocarbon potentials, climate...

Coupling Geomechanics and Transport in Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

Large amounts of hydrocarbon reserves are trapped in naturally fractured reservoirs which arechallenging in terms of accurate recovery prediction because of their joint fabric complexity andlithological heterogeneity. Canada, for example, has over 400 billion barrels of crude oil in fracturedcarbonates in Alberta, most of this being bitumen of viscosity greater than 106 cP in the GrosmontFormat...

A New Screening Evaluation Method for Carbon Dioxide Miscible Flooding Candidate Reservoirs

Prior to the implementation of CO2 injection EOR projects, the screening evaluation of candidate reservoirs will promote the economic benefits of CO2 injection. Currently, a uniform screening method for CO2 miscible flooding does not exist. Based on more than 112 successfully implemented CO2 miscible flooding reservoirs, which was referred in 2010 Worldwide EOR Survey, and CO2 miscible flooding...

Redeveloping Mature Fractured Carbonate Reservoirs

Naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs (NFCRs) comprise the majority of the oil and gas reservoirs around the Persian Gulf.  Many of these reservoirs have a long history of exploitation, but vast amounts of oil remain in place.  A major redevelopment process for light oil based NFRs will likely be the use of horizontal wells combined with gravity drainage at constant pressure based on voidage...

Heart Rate Variability in an Elite Female Alpine Skier: a Case Study

Objectives. The purpose of this study was to assess the heart rate variability (HRV) during off-snow and on-snow training in an elite female alpine ski racer. Methods. Using a case study design, a single elite female alpine ski racer (25 years old; 175.6 cm; 69.9 kg) was recruited from the Canadian Alpine Ski Team. Training load was obtained using the sessional rating of perceived exertion met...
